These expectations are written with student ePAL tablets in mind, but nearly all apply to employee tablet PCs! - Protect your ePAL
Students are responsible for protecting their tablet PCs at all times. Take care when handling it to avoid setting it down hard or dropping it. Never touch the screen with anything but your finger or the tablet pen. Use only a light touch without pressing hard on the screen to prevent cracks and chips. - Screen swiveled shut
The screen must be facing the keyboard before placing in carrying bag to protect it. Swivel your screen only when the tablet profile forms an “L-shape” with the screen perpendicular to the keyboard to prevent damage to the hinge, clips, and screen. When rotating, grasp the entire top of the screen bezel, not just the protruding antenna tab, which can break off if torqued. - Pen clicked in
Push your pen ALL the way when until it clicks to keep it from sliding out and breaking. Push it in to pop it back out instead of pulling it out. Slide it out slowly and do not pull it toward you until it's all the way out to prevent breaking it. - Slip in center slot
Put your tablet in the center slot of its case. Tablets must be in Sleep/Standby, Hibernate, or Off mode when in a bag to prevent overheating and hard drive damage. ePAL tablets are set to sleep when the lid is closed. - ePAL all alone
The tablet must be alone in its separate padded compartment within the bag, with any other contents of the bag in separate compartments and arranged so as not to damage the tablet. - Tether Tucked
Tuck the pen tether inside the case to prevent it from getting stuck in the zipper. Do not tuck the tether between the screen and keyboard so that the plastic tether clasps could break the screen. - Zipper Zipped
The carrying bag should always be zipped shut before carrying to prevent the ePAL tablet from falling out. - Keep & carry it in its case
ePAL tablets must be in their school-provided protective bags at all times when not in use. - ePAL tablets must be either attended or stored in a designated location [locker charging station] at all times.
- ePAL tablets must be taken home each night during the school year.
- ePAL tablets may be taken on athletic team away-game trips for the purpose of completing homework on the bus with the permission of the coach. [ePAL tablets must remain locked in the bus and may not be taken into any sporting venue.]
- ePAL tablets may be taken on school-sponsored field trips for which a laptop has been deemed necessary by the trip leader.
- ePAL tablets should in general be kept at home during breaks and other times and not taken on trips. If necessary to take on a trip, appropriate security precautions must be taken (for example, the ePAL tablet should be stowed securely as carry-on luggage on any flights).
