Visitor Wireless Configuration - Apple Mac OS X

Procedure

Note: If your client has wireless configuration software from your wireless hardware vendor installed, use that rather than the Mac OS X built-in wireless.

  1. You will find connecting to and using the wireless network more convenient if the AirPort menu bar icon is displayed. By default, it should appear on AirPort equipped computers to the left of the clock. If the AirPort icon does not appear on your laptop’s menu bar:
    • Double-click your primary hard drive icon located on the desktop
    • Open the Applications folder, and select the Internet Connect icon
    • In the Internet Connect window, select the button labeled AirPort and make sure the box labeled Show AirPort status in menu bar is checked

  2. If your AirPort is not turned on (indicated by an empty wireless icon ), do so now by clicking on the wireless icon in the upper right corner of the desktop and selecting Turn AirPort On

  3. Click on the wireless icon in the upper right corner of the desktop and select Panthers

  4. Enter in the network key provided to you by the IT Service Center and click OK

  5. Look at the wireless icon in the upper right corner of the desktop to verify that you have connected properly
    • If you see a black wireless icon the network has been located and you are connected
    • If you see a grey wireless icon there may be a problem with the wireless signal between your device and an access point or the configuration may be incorrect
      • Confirm that the settings for the network are correct
      • Move your device closer to an access point
    • If you see an empty wireless icon your AirPort is turned off and should be turned on
